Privacy policy
Last updated: October 27, 2026
Backte.st has no user accounts and no database of users. This page explains what is stored, where, and what third parties receive when you use the site.
Who is responsible
Backte.st is the data controller for the processing described on this page. Questions about privacy or your data: privacy@backte.st
Data stored in your browser
- Saved reports. When you run a backtest, the report is kept in your browser’s local storage (keys starting with bt:) so you can reopen it later. It never leaves your device unless you share it. You can remove reports from the list in the lab or by clearing your browser’s site data.
- Share links. A share link contains the compressed report in the part of the address after the # sign. Browsers do not send that part to our server, so we never see shared reports. Anyone you give the link to can read the report.
Data processed on our server
- Market data requests. To load prices for stocks, ETFs, indices and forex, your browser asks our server for the symbols, candle size and date range you chose. Our server fetches the prices from Yahoo Finance and returns them. We don’t store these requests or link them to you.
- Crypto pairs such as BTC-USDT are loaded by your browser directly from Binance’s public market-data service, so Binance receives that request, including your IP address. See Binance’s privacy notice.
- Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser details to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how the site is used (for example which pages are visited). Google may set cookies such as _ga for this purpose. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage is denied by default until you give consent (Google Consent Mode v2). Without consent, Google receives only limited, cookieless signals.
Advertising
The site shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance and, where you allow it, personalize them based on your visits to this and other sites.
- Where required by law, a consent message from Google’s certified consent management platform asks for your choices before personalized ads or ad cookies are used. You can change your choices at any time from the privacy and cookie settings link the message provides.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at adssettings.google.com, and learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Ads are never placed inside the strategy lab itself.
Cookies and local storage at a glance
- Local storage (bt:…): your saved reports. Kept until you remove them.
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_…): usage statistics, only where consent allows.
- Google advertising cookies: ad delivery, frequency capping, measurement and, with consent, personalization.
- Consent cookies: remember your consent choices, where a consent message is shown.
Your rights
Because we don’t keep accounts or personal profiles, we usually hold no personal data that we could identify as yours. Data held by Google is subject to Google’s privacy policy, and you can manage it through your Google account and ad settings. To ask about your data or exercise your rights, write to the address above.
Children
Backte.st is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
We will update this page when the site changes how it handles data and change the date above.
