About Backte.st
Backte.st helps you find out whether a trading idea is robust or just lucky. You pick a strategy, choose up to 10 markets, check the exact rules, and get a transparent backtest plus six robustness checks in seconds.
Why it exists
It is easy to build a backtest that looks great. Most of them are flattered by optimistic fills, low costs, a few lucky trades or settings that were tuned to the past. Backte.st is built for skeptics: it shows the headline result and then tries to break it.
How it works
- Explicit rules. Every strategy is built from indicators and rules you pick from menus, with optional stops and targets, so you can read and edit it before anything runs.
- A deterministic engine. The same rules on the same data always give the same report. Signals use completed candles and orders fill at the next open, with commission, spread and slippage on every trade. Stops and targets are checked against each candle’s high and low.
- Runs in your browser. The backtest is calculated on your device. Prices are fetched from public market-data sources for the symbols you choose.
- Six robustness checks. Unseen period, doubled costs, nearby parameters, delayed entry, best trades removed and a trade-order shuffle. Each one is explained on the blog.
What it is not
Backte.st is research software, not investment advice and not a broker. It does not place trades, manage money or recommend securities. Past performance does not predict future returns.
Free, and no account needed
There is no sign-up. Saved reports stay in your browser, and you can share any report as a link that contains the report itself. The site is supported by advertising on content pages.
